The Wynn casino in the Chinese city of Macau came into disrepute on 9 October 2017 due to a possible violation of the smoking ban. Macau’s Health Bureau has investigated the well-known casino. This is because the Wynn casino has not placed any smoke-free signs near the casino. This is contrary to the smoking ban that applies throughout the city of Macau.
Complaint about Wynn casino in Macau
In an official statement about the situation, the Macau Health Bureau reports that the body has received a complaint about the Wynn casino. The Macau Health Bureau was informed that the Wynn does not comply with a government approved blueprint for the year 2012. For example, the casino has a few smoking areas, but it is not clearly indicated where players are allowed to smoke and where they are allowed to smoke. In areas where smoking is prohibited, for example, no "no smoking" signs have been placed.
According to the smoking policy of the city of Macau, smoking is allowed in casinos, but in special smoking areas. Visitors to the casinos are not allowed to smoke outside the smoking areas. Casinos must clearly indicate to visitors where smoking is permitted. According to the Macau Health Bureau, by not placing certain signs, the Wynn may not have done so. This needs to be further investigated.
Possible fine for Wynn
The violation is currently being investigated by the Macau Health Bureau. The Wynn casino has been informed of this investigation. If the casino is found guilty of breaking the rules, the casino must pay a fine. The casino may also be required to place signs that clearly indicate where visitors to the casino may and may not smoke.
