After a week full of international football, the fifth round of the Eredivisie is approaching. The most interesting meeting takes place in Alkmaar, where the number three in the Feyenoord rankings visits the number four AZ. The game starts at 12: 15h and the teams are strongly matched, with Feyenoord as a light favorite.
Recovery started at Feyenoord
Feyenoord started the season sadly. A dramatic elimination in Europe against the void AS Trencin and a 0-2 defeat against De Graafschap brought the mood in Rotterdam South below freezing. Feyenoord has found its way up the last three games. Excelsior, Heerenveen and NAC were beaten with big numbers. In those matches, coach Van Bronckhorst's team managed to score no less than twelve times. A third of these hits came in the name of Robin van Persie. He shows that he is technically and tactically far above the rest. The all-time top scorer of the Dutch national team also has a good click with Steven Berghuis. A weapon that Feyenoord wants to use optimally in Alkmaar.
Feyenoord already had nine hits in four matches; the Rotterdam rearguard is the Achilles heel of the team. The central duo Jan-Arie van der Heijden and Eric Botteghin are slow and static and, in addition, both players are weak in the build-up. The two central defenders stand their ground against large, strong strikers, but fast light-footed attackers face problems immediately. With Myron Boadu, AZ has a player in its ranks that causes a lot of unrest with its actions and speed. Feyenoord wants to isolate Boadu and close off the supply to the peak. A clear task for midfielder Jordy Clasie.
It is time for AZ to show itself in big competitions. Last year it did not win a single encounter with a club from the classic top three and lost no less than 0-4 to Feyenoord. With seven points from four games, the start is awkward. On average AZ gets the most shots in a match (6). On Sunday, promises such as Guus Til and Teun Koopmeiners must show why they are seen as future internationals. Koopmeiners sent out the most passes of all Premier League players (359). If the Feyenoord succeeds in neutralizing the passing of the midfielder and manages to put the Van Persie-Berghuis duo in position, the three points go to Rotterdam South.
