It is a challenge that many casino struggles with: how do we reach the younger players, especially the so-called millennium generation?
According to trend watchers, the "millennials", born between 1980 and 2000, are "too fast" an old-style casino.
This new generation is used to Twitter, Instagram, bloggers and vloggers, Snapchat and Pokémon Go. Everything quickly and quickly, how and where you want it.
The current, cumbersome casinos would not fit in well with the modern world. Not only trend watchers think that, but also casino entrepreneurs, such as the American billionaire Steve Wynn:
"Gambling is a passive activity. It has no value. One roulette table is exactly the same as any other roulette table. (…) The strength of our companies is in the activities outside the casino. The strength is in him in the experiences that you experience. "
Our own CEO of Holland Casino, Erwin van Lambaart, feels exactly the same way.
In Las Vegas, the MGM Resorts International casino chain has now come up with something to accommodate the young. Hold on: gamble on your cell phone or tablet.
The invention of MGM is called EasyPlay.
You can only use EasyPlay if you are logged into the Wi-Fi network of one of the MGM casinos on the Strip in Las Vegas: Aria, Bellagio, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York -New York.
Only the outdated casino Circus Circus (also from MGM) does not participate, but you shouldn't go there anyway, says Mr Casino.
Logging in to that WiFi network is only possible again if you are close to one of those casinos. In your hotel room for example. Or at the swimming pool.
The game selection is not yet as mega as the casinos themselves. To put it softly.
EasyPlay offers no less than two different slots, one video poker and bingo. And certainly not the caliber that we are used to in online casinos in Europe.
With EasyPlay, it's not about "normal" gambling, but about tournaments. There are slot tournaments 24 hours a day, where you play against other casino visitors.
For example, you can buy a ticket for the Daily 25 Diamond Slots Tournament for 2 dollars. You can play 25 spins on a slot for that. If you get the highest score of all participants in those 25 spins, you win a cash prize.
More games will be added in the future and probably also more expensive VIP tournaments with extra large prizes – by invitation only.
Unfortunately for Dutch people: for now only residents of the United States are allowed to participate in the tournaments on EasyPlay.
Mr. Casino is wondering if this will prove to be the ultimate idea to lure the millennials to Las Vegas.
