It's no secret that North Korea has almost the entire world against it. More and more countries are introducing sanctions against the empire of Kim Jong-Un and these sanctions mean that the country receives less money. The result? Kim Jong-Un has to invent other ways to make money. That is why he decided on October 19, 2017 that gambling on horse racing is no longer illegal in North Korea. In fact, he tries to convince the rich to use as much money as possible.
North Korea's money problem
North Korea is being boycotted internationally. There are more and more sanctions against North Korea, making it more difficult for Kim Jong-Un to fill the treasury. Because the country now has very little money, other sources are being sought to get money into the treasury. One of these sources is gambling on horse racing.
No more labor camp for gambling on horse racing
Until recently, you got a whopping three-year labor camp in North Korea if you were caught gambling on horse racing. Now this is different. Kim Jong-Un wants to earn as much money as possible by organizing horse racing. He has not only made gambling at these competitions legal, but also convinces rich people of the country to bet as much money as possible on the horses.
It is not known whether the horse races will actually bring enough money into the greenhouse. It is striking that Kim Jong-Un suddenly changes his policy drastically, simply because otherwise the country does not have enough money. For the gambling enthusiasts in the country it is certainly good news that gambling on horse racing is now suddenly legal.
