In the first six months of this year, Holland Casino posted a revenue of € 309 million. That is 2 percent more than in the first half of 2016.
Although the number of visitors decreased by 3 percent, that was compensated because the guests spent 6 percent more per visit.
The operating result has fallen somewhat. After deduction of corporation tax, € 30 million remained. In the same period last year, that was € 35.8 million.
Holland Casino CEO Erwin van Lambaart is satisfied with the figures:
"Due to the turbulent period surrounding the collective bargaining, we did not have an easy spring, and those months had a visible impact on our results. This also explains the decreased number of guests.
But the numbers show at the same time what a resilient company we are. We are still well on course and the underlying positive trend of recent years is clearly continuing. "
Invest in the future
In the half-year report, Holland Casino indicates that it will continue to invest heavily in new and existing locations and to expand its range of games.
If everything goes well, the new casino in Amsterdam West will open this fall. The construction plans for the new locations in Venlo and Utrecht are well advanced – these casinos should be operational in 2019.
Holland Casino also says it has "excellent cooperation" with the municipality of Groningen when searching for a new location after the existing casino was destroyed by fire two weeks ago.
In addition, the management keeps a close eye on developments in The Hague politics. The intended division and privatization of Holland Casino and the legalization of online games of chance are still awaiting treatment by the Senate.
Erwin van Lambaart:
"Depending on that decision-making process, the Dutch gambling market may change radically. We prepare well for this. With these solid half-year figures, Holland Casino shows that the company is focusing on the future. "
