After an international interruption of two weeks, an interesting meeting is scheduled for Sunday 10 September at 12:30 pm. Fellow leader PSV meets Heerenveen in the north. A first real test for the Phillip Cocu team.
PSV has had a turbulent transfer period. Especially the transfers that just did not go through stood out. The transfer from striker Jürgen Locadia to English Wolverhampton Wanderers broke off just before the market closed. The striker was reportedly already medically tested in a hospital in Geldrop after which the transition was canceled. With Luuk de Jong, PSV has another striker who thought he would switch to a new club. Girondins de Bordeaux, however, abandoned the transfer at the last minute. The question is whether the players have managed to give the unexpected developments a place and can fully focus on the meeting in Heerenveen. There is a chance that coach Cocu will therefore take a different approach and start with top talent Sam Lammers. The 20-year-old attacker looks fresh and sharp and has proven to have a nose for the goal at Jong PSV.
Paal meets Ödegaard
The people of Eindhoven themselves went looking for a left back this summer, but were unable to attract a replacement for Jetro Willems. The youthful Kenneth Paal seems to be the right person to fill the gap for this season. Against Roda JC and NAC Breda, the 20-year-old defender simply remained standing. In Heerenveen, Paal has to fight his duels with top talent Martin Ödegaard. These will be interesting duels because the Norwegian hired from Real Madrid will want to excel this season to do justice to its stamp as top talent. Certainly after Sam Larsson's departure for Feyenoord, he is the right person to take Heerenveen by the hand.
In addition to Larsson, the Frisians let the defenders Jeremiah St. Juste and Joost van Aken leave more quality. Nevertheless, they seem to have established a worthy defensive substitute with Denzel Dumfries. The right-wing defender who came from Sparta is not only defensive but he is also offensive, with four assists in three games he is invaluable for the team of Jurgen Streppel. Against PSV, Dumfries has to prove that he is also offensive and defensive against a top club.
