The children from primary school De Starter in Groningen raised a lot of money for children in Burkina Faso. Not only by selling art, pancakes, sandwiches and bracelets, but also by running their own casino.
Collect money for charity
De Starter is a public primary school in Groningen, which organizes a major project once every two years. During this project, money is raised for a good cause. The school does this by bringing together many subjects and competences, such as arithmetic, world cultures and philosophy of life. The project is therefore not only useful for charity, but also educational for the children.
This year the money from the school went to the Kaamba Neere Foundation. This foundation helps children in Burkina Faso find a good school and obtain their diploma so that they can go a step further in life. A big advantage of the foundation: all the money goes directly to the children. The children from primary school De Starter have therefore actively worked for the children in Burkina Faso and not for anyone else.
Collect money with a casino
On Tuesday, March 27, De Starter primary school was completely converted to raise money for charity. There was a department store and a restaurant, but there was also a casino. Here visitors, including parents, uncles, aunts, grandfathers and grandmothers, could play different kinds of games. Of course not for free, but with a small contribution to help the children in Burkina Faso.
13,000 euros for the kids in Burkina Faso
At the end of the afternoon, when the casino, department store and restaurant were closed again, the Kaamba Neere Foundation handed a check for no less than 13,000 euros. The project, with its own casino in particular, had therefore been very successful.
All the money that the children raised for the kids in Burkina Faso is invested directly in education in the African country. By running their own casino, department store and restaurant for a few hours, the children from De Starter primary school ensured that more children can go to school in African Burkina Faso.
