A few days ago, it was announced that Galaxy Entertainment Group will be licensed to build a casino on the Filipino island of Boracay. The construction of the large resort starts in 2019 and will take approximately three years. Now it appears that Galaxy Entertainment Group, originally only based in Macau, China, is not nearly finished with expansion. The casino operator wants to get hold of a casino license in Japan.
Construction 500 million casino on Boracay goes ahead
The question was whether construction was allowed on the Philippine island of Boracay, but Galaxy Entertainment Group has officially received a casino license from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, also called PAGGOR. The island will be closed for a longer period to do a major cleaning, but this does not bother Galaxy Entertainment Group. The operator may simply build a resort with casino.
Construction will start in 2019, will take approximately three years and is expected to cost $ 500 million. So it is certainly not a small project for the Galaxy Entertainment Group.
The next step: a license in Japan
Although the Boracay project is certainly not a small project, the Galaxy Entertainment Group is already focusing on the next step. The company wants to get a casino license in Japan. To make this possible, the top of the company is certainly not standing still. According to Jeremy Walker, one of the leaders of the Galaxy Entertainment Group, talks are already being held with Japanese government officials. The company hopes that they will not only be able to open a new casino in the Philippines, but also in Japan.
If the Galaxy Entertainment Group does indeed receive a casino license in Japan, this is the first license that the Japanese government will grant to a foreign casino operator. This makes it an extra challenging project for Galaxy Entertainment Group.
