MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment, two well-known casino giants in Las Vegas, called on members of Congress on September 11, 2017 to stand up for immigrants in the United States. President Donald Trump wants to deport undocumented immigrants, but the casinos want to stop this at all costs. They employ a lot of immigrants.
Many immigrants currently living in America have come to the country with their parents. The parents of the immigrants are registered, but their own presence in the United States is nowhere documented. President Obama wanted to protect these immigrants, who have often been in the US for many years and have built a life on it. Donald Trump thinks differently about this. He wants to deport the children of the immigrants.
Trump's new law has not yet been implemented, but this is on the agenda. The president's department has already announced that it will eliminate the protection of young immigrants.
Casinos are against new law
Like many other organizations, the large casinos MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment are against the new Trump law. They employ a lot of immigrants and this would mean that a large part of their workforce will be deported sooner or later.
“Caesars Entertainment has employees who must be deported according to the new Trump law. We support their efforts to become American citizens, just as we support the efforts of other immigrants, ”said Caesars vice president of public affairs and communications. MGM supports this Caesars ruling and has provided support to persons affected by the announcement. Both casinos urge Congress to stop the law.
The future of immigrants remains unclear
What will happen to the immigrants is still unclear. The law has not yet been implemented (and this will take a while), but Trump is actively committed to eventually getting the law through Congress. Whether the law will actually be implemented depends on their resistance. In any case, it is clear that two major casinos from Las Vegas absolutely disagree with the law. This can make it difficult to implement the law.
