The construction of a new Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) resort with casino on the Filipino island of Boracay will continue. The government threatens to close the island, but Galaxy Entertainment Group and its local partner Leisure and Resort World Corp (LRWC) don't care. They indicate that the construction of the $ 500 million resort will continue.
UPDATE: GEG received a license.
23 hectares purchased on Boracay
LRWC has indicated that it has already purchased 23 hectares of land on Boracay. This land will be used for the construction of the new Galaxy Entertainment Group resort, including casino. The two companies have not yet received a casino license from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGC), but they expect this to happen in the short term. If they have indeed received a license, the construction will really start.
The closure of Boracay
The island of Boracay will most likely be closed for a year. This is to properly clean the island and to restore nature on the island. If this happens, the construction of the new Galaxy Entertainment Group resort with casino would also come to a halt for a while.
Support from the PAGC
Nevertheless, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has indicated that the two parties behind the new resort need not worry. If the island indeed closes a year, they could just build. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has also indicated that the Galaxy Entertainment Group and its local partner will receive a temporary license for the casino at the resort in March. This would mean that construction can begin.
We just have to wait and see what exactly will happen on Boracay. In any case it is clear that Galaxy Entertainment Group and its local partner Leisure and Resort World Corp would love to build a casino on the island and not just give up their project.
