Every croupier has experienced it, every table chef, every room chef, every security guard and every manager has had to deal with it. Cheating is part of the casino, the constant battle between “the casino” and the cheaters is universal. There are several levels of cheating, one of which is trying to play with counterfeit money, or counterfeit coins (chips, chips, plaques). Several times attempts were made to offer counterfeit money at the tables, and sometimes they succeeded. Especially in the early years of Zandvoort, Valkenburg and Scheveningen when no UV light had been mounted in the tables to check the notes. Croupiers were instructed to call the chief when in doubt about a ticket. He leaned over to the croupier in question and called for a room manager and cashier. The suspicious note “left the bank” and the cashier checked the note “behind”. If it was “wrong”, a security guard was added, and together with the room manager the guest was taken to the “VIP room” where a conversation followed. The guest often turned out to be innocent, and had received the ticket elsewhere. In case of doubt, the guest was further refused entry, sometimes justice was called in.
Fake coins, (tokens, chips and plaques) .. “chips” ..
One is inventive when it comes to attempts to “fool” the casino, this has also been tried many times, simply having the valuable coins to be copied. Sometimes with a successful attempt, especially when lower values were copied well, but yes; a token of, for example, 20 guilders cost 12 guilders to get made, so the return was somewhat low. We did find out at a time when the factory that produced them also simply supplied unprinted coins with the same colors. A sticker with value and casino was often tried. I remember that I often discovered fake coins by “feeling”. Higher values soon received “technical” recognition, so this problem disappeared.False chip of 1000
A deliberate attempt at cheating by claiming a bet was common in the first years at the French Roulette. Apart from two or three colors of “marked” tokens, everyone played with the same color. In order to avoid any doubt about the ownership of the won bet, the guests often and many gave ‘annonces', their bets had a pattern, a number ‘with the neighbors' (assembled in the cylinder), a final (number ends in), a series (large, small, orphelins). And many annonces devised by guests, which, because they were given to the croupier, were repeated in the memory. However, due to large crowds, people often succeeded in claiming a won bet without having placed it. Guests often played at multiple tables, and smart figures managed to collect the payment. In the days before the observation cameras in the gaming room it was the order of the day.Bout de Table observes French Roulette
Despite the professional knowledge of the table staff, the constant observation and the cameras, cheaters still succeed in their setup. For example, by shifting the bets that belonged to an announcement. But then the chance of success was again dependent on luck. Shifting from higher bets to single odds (color, odd / even or high / low) and column (row) and dozen were more common. Many of these problems have largely disappeared through innovation, think of each player having their own color on the American Roulette, the “neighbor print” and of course the disappearance of the French Roulette.RIEN NE VA PLUS, the black sheet about the French Roulette on November 5, 2011
The true casino cheater is skilled in juggling bets when the number won is already known. A poussette is the placing of a bet on a winning opportunity. It was always watchful when it was busy and people sat down at the French roulette at the first dozen, packs of cigarettes on the table, and the ashtray on the table next to the dozen. As an experienced croupier you were alert, I pushed the ashtray 15 centimeters away from the first dozen with my râteau. Our eyes were focused especially on the moment the ball fell into a song on the ‘poussette sensitive' spots on the tableau (table). Another poussette trick is to create chaos by continuing to bet just before the ball falls by one of the members of a “poussette team”. We know that after the “Rien ne va plus” (nothing goes anymore) no more may be deployed. But that rule may be interpreted by the “bouleur” (the one who spins the ball). It often happens that a guest wants to “finish” his game, almost always a familiar pattern that the guest uses. But a poussetteur creates chaos to distract the croupiers, often “hanging” over the table with the whole body. The moment the ball falls, a partner is placed at lightning speed on the number won, or a chance won. Sometimes so skillfully that they succeed in placing a chip under the other won opportunities. We have even seen that an actual artist threw a piece on the number won! A poussette team often consisted of a nervous type, an older gentleman and a very beautiful lady. Croupiers are also not concrete, and the lady had only one goal, distracting. The nervous type distracted things, the gentleman claimed the “won” bet and payment.False chip of 100
Excesses with poussettes
From an elastic band that “shot” a plaque from under a pack of cigarettes onto the dozen to a table chef who ran after a poussette door, to outside the casino; anecdote from an eyewitness: “I remember those tables and lamps in that place very well. A poussette was committed to the BdT, the table chef saw it, after which the guest rushed out of the casino. The table chef did not hesitate for a moment and ran after it to return to the canteen half an hour later with torn shirt and tuxedo. He had caught the guest and the pieces back … good time. ”There even turned out to be a kind of school in Italy where poussetteurs were trained.
