It is expected that the gambling policy of the Dutch Gaming Authority will change in 2018, it is announced on 5 January 2018. More and more people are gambling in a foreign online casino, which the Dutch Gaming Authority cannot supervise. This makes it difficult for the Dutch government to estimate how many online casinos are converting and how many Dutch gamblers are active here.
Update: nothing has changed yet, inform here about all developments.
License for offering online games of chance
It is expected that this year a license for offering games of chance will be introduced in the Netherlands for online casinos. Until now it was forbidden to offer games of chance, or to participate in games of chance in the Netherlands.
Modernization of the online gambling world
The idea of introducing a license for online casinos is not new. The Dutch government has been working on the elaboration of this idea since 2008, under the name “remote gambling (KOA)" Online casinos that will soon be granted a license bear the responsibility to guide gamblers in the way they play.
A gambling addiction should be signaled or prevented faster by the online casinos in this way. So-called problem players should be entered in a register so that they can no longer participate in online gambling. Gambling addiction among online gamblers is something the Dutch Gaming Authority is currently unable to exercise any influence on.
